The Women's Chorus of Dallas (TWCD) was founded in 1989 with 32 members. The first performance was held at the Crescent Court Hotel. It was broadcast live on WRR 101.1, the classical radio station in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Five years later, the Chorus hired their first office staff member. They have had a paid and volunteer staff ranging from Accompanist, Office Manager, Production Manager, Assistant Artistic Director, and other jobs. In 2002, the Chorus hired their first full-time Artistic Director. During its 19-year history, TWCD has had 6 part-time Artistic Directors, 4 accompanists and over 300 women singing.
The Chorus has served the community by singing for numerous benefits, including Hope's Door and Youth First Texas, and also raising over $50,000 for organizations like the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, many AIDS-related services, Our Friends' Place, and other non-profit organizations. TWCD also sings for church services, private engagements, and concerts in other cities across the country.
We are recipients of grants from The Dallas Black Tie Dinner, The City of Dallas's Office of Cultural Affairs, TACA and the Texas Commission of the Arts.
The Chorus has released 9 solo recordings and 7 collaborative recordings with the Turtle Creek Chorale. The Women's Chorus of Dallas has participated in several international choral festivals in San Jose, Denver, Tampa, and Montreal and has sung in New York's Carnegie Hall twice, returning again in February, 2006. TWCD has been a member of GALA Choruses since 1989. The Chorus has also been a member of Chorus America and the American Choral Directors Association.
