
Will Varner ,
Principal Accompanist, Assistant Artistic Director
Will Varner enjoys playing piano for
children's choirs, church choirs, instrumentalists, singers, and musical theatre
productions. He teaches elementary music in Richardson and is the Music Associate
at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church. He has written and arranged music for
soloists, ensembles, church choirs, school choirs, and bell choirs, including
Deep in the Heart of Texas for Younger Generation. His musical career has included
a variety of experiences such as teaching on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona,
playing gamelan for an opera, and visiting the Great Wall of China (where he
also performed for Chinese music students.) Will has worked with classes all
the way from kindergarten to college. General music, band, and choir have been
included in his work. He has performed with various community choruses and
musical theatre groups in the area.
Varner has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Friends University in
Wichita, Kansas and a Masters degree in Music Education from Holy Names College
in Oakland, California. He has studied movement education with Phyllis Weikart
in her Education Through Movement: Building the Foundation. Workshops in Kodaly
music education topics and folk dance have been an important part of his experience.
He also served as the state elementary vice-president of Texas Music Educators
of Texas. Will is excited and honored to be playing for The Women’s Chorus
of Dallas.
